Step 12: Again, you will find out a heap of folders. Step 11: Scroll down the files on the ‘Windows’ folder and find the folder named ‘System32’ hit it. If you had changed the location previously, then you would have to find that folder by searching from quick access. Step 9: Navigate to ‘ Local Disk C’ the printer files, by default, should be on this drive. Step 8: Now, visit the ‘File Explorer’ of your Windows either directly from the bottom menu bar or the Windows start menu. Step 7: Choose ‘Show hidden files, folders, and drives’ and then hit the apply button. Of course, you can find this option from the ‘File Explorer’ too by navigating to ‘file’, top-left of the screen, and choosing ‘change folder and files, and then visiting the ‘view’ menu. Therefore, search for ‘Show hidden files and folders from the search bar and left-click on it. Step 6: Now, we want to command Windows to show us all the files including the hidden files because our desired files can remain ‘hidden’ on the local drive. Remember one thing, as long as it remains being stopped, the printer won’t be able to function at all. Now, after selecting the ‘Print Spooler, right-click on the mouse and choose ‘Stop’. Hence, scroll down the list until you find it. Step 5: You will see lots of program names on the ‘Services’ box. Step 4: Go back to the Windows search bar and look for a tool called ‘Services’. So, these are the files that were creating trouble and blocking the new documents from being printed. The properties of the documents are also visible. Step 3: You will find out the erroneous documents which are queued on the device. After selecting the printer, right-click on the mouse and choose the ‘See what’s printing option. The printer of mine here is the Canon MX920 series you should be able to find yours. Look for your printer from this location. Step 2: You will see a list of devices that your PC is using. Now that we have a clear idea of how the print queue occurs, we can move on to how this issue can be solved. Unless you clear those queued documents from the associated Windows, the printer will not work properly. Next time when you give the command to print another document, the printer won’t be able to because of the queued document/documents. This is where you can manage various Windows and other services.When a document was given a command to print but for some reason, it did not and you just forgot about it, then the document was queued on the command list of the printer. This will open the Windows Services management console window. In the empty field, type services.msc and press Enter. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box. If you don’t like or are not comfortable using the command prompt method, you can manually stop the print spooler services from the management console and delete the print job files. Stop Print Spooler Service and Clear Queued Files If the print queue does get stuck again, follow the above procedure once more to clear the print queue. From now on, you should be able to print files without the print queue getting stuck. After deleting the print job files, you need to start the print spooler again to print your files without restarting Windows. These files are just responsible for the print queue. Don’t worry we are not deleting anything important. For that, use the below command to delete files. Next, you need to delete the print job files. Use the below command to stop the print spooler service. The above action will open the command prompt with admin rights. In the Settings app, go to “Devices -> Printers and Scanners.”Ģ. You can also open the Settings app by searching for it in the start menu or clicking on the “All Settings” button in the Notification center.Ģ. Open the Settings app by pressing the keyboard shortcut Win + I. The new Windows 10 Settings app has suitable options to clear the print job list.ġ. By clearing the print job list, you can remove the print queue. Clear Print Queue from the Settings AppĮvery time you try to print something, Windows adds it as a print job. There are four different methods to clear the print queue. That being said, though the options are not so easy to find, it is quite easy to clear the print queue with just a few clicks. To make matter worse, the options to clear print queue are hidden deep and the apps provided by the printer manufacturer are no better either.
